Evergreen Int’l Airlines Crewmembers Vote for ALPA Representation

McMinnville, OR – The pilots and flight engineers of Evergreen International Airlines voted to merge their independent union, The Aviators’ Group (TAG), with the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA).

With 79.8% of the eligible TAG members voting, 158 members – or 90.8% – voted in favor of the merger.

“I am very pleased with the result of this vote,” said Flight Engineer William Fink, president of TAG. “I firmly believe that this merger is in the best interest of our pilots and flight engineers and know that being part of the ALPA family will make us stronger in negotiations.”

ALPA’s Executive Board, scheduled to meet next month, is expected to approve the Merger Agreement. The Agreement will then go into effect November 1.

TAG’s Executive Board endorsed the TAG-ALPA Merger Agreement in June 2007. ALPA’s Executive Council approved it at a meeting in July. ALPA initiated an educational campaign with TAG by using electronic communications, crewmember conference calls and through volunteers from TAG speaking to fellow crewmembers on the advantages of joining ALPA.

The Agreement provides ALPA membership for TAG members, seamless transition of TAG representation to the ALPA governance structure, and the provision of necessary negotiations support by ALPA.

Established in 1999, The Aviators Group (TAG) is the certified non-profit labor organization for more than 250 pilots and flight engineers in the service of Evergreen International Airlines (EIA). Operating a fleet of Boeing 747Fs, EIA specializes in charter and contract freighter operations around the globe.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union representing more than 60,000 cockpit crewmembers at 41 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. For more information, visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
