Passengers at Chicago O'Hare International Airport walk past an ALPA diorama marking ALPA pilots' contribution to 75 years of safe flying.

ALPA Pilots Honored at U.S. and Canadian Airports

ALPA is reminding the flying public of the role its pilots have played in making airline travel safe over the past 75 years. Display advertisements are installed, or soon will be, in more than a dozen U.S. and Canadian airports to commemorate the 75th anniversary of ALPA's founding.

The dioramas feature two pilots from both ends of ALPA history, and the tag line, “75 Years of Safe Flying… Brought to you by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l.” The large, colorful ads will be displayed on posters, plasma television sets, and video monitor screens, depending on the airport. ALPA continues to work with several airports that have so far refused to allow the dioramas.

“The timing of our 75th anniversary is almost perfect,” says ALPA's president, Capt. Duane Woerth. “It is imperative to show the flying public how pilots have transported people and cargo across the world professionally and safely--through good times and bad.”

The exhibit will run through the end of August and has been well received by the first few pilots to see it, including Capt. Rick Simons (American Eagle), who saw the diorama at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

“It's a nice, eye-catching display,” said Capt. Simons. “It's the past meeting the future, and it looks good.”
