Delta Pilots Oppose Motion by Retired Pilots

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Delta pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), announced today they would vigorously oppose a motion filed by the Delta Pilots’ Pension Preservation Organization (DP3) to reject the Bankruptcy Restructuring Agreement, LOA 51, upon which tentative agreement was reached by Delta and ALPA negotiators last month. ALPA leadership has unequivocally recommended the pilots ratify the agreement. Ratification voting began May 17 and will close May 31. A hearing for the Court’s approval of the agreement, and any objections, is scheduled in the Bankruptcy Court the same day.

DP3 represents a group of retired pilots attempting to reject the tentative agreement recently negotiated by the Delta pilots with Delta at the expense of the airline and its pilots and other Delta employees. Additionally, DP3 now seeks to be an active participant in the already concluded negotiations between Delta pilots and the Company.

LOA 51 protects the best interests of Delta Air Lines, the pilots and the creditors. It is vital to the successful restructuring of Delta and the long-term health of the airline. The Unsecured Creditors Committee, which represents Delta’s largest creditors, is supporting the agreement.

Delta MEC Chairman, Captain Lee Moak stated, “Just as we have before, we will continue the fight to protect our contract. It is unfortunate that this threat to our careers and our airline now comes from some of our own former pilots. All of us at Delta, are making sacrifices for our airline to return to prosperity. It is in everybody’s best interest for this deal to be approved and for Delta to successfully reorganize and exit bankruptcy.”

Founded in 1931, the Air Line Pilots Association ( ALPA) represents 62,000 pilots at 39 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. ALPA represents approximately 6,000 active Delta Air Lines pilots and 500 furloughed Delta pilots.
