Northwest Airlines Pilots Picket in Cities Across the United States

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. --Northwest Airlines pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA), will conduct informational picketing in four different cities across the United States to demonstrate their frustration with Northwest management's abuse of the bankruptcy process to demand excessive and unreasonable concessions.

NWA pilots will picket and leaflet today at the Detroit, Minneapolis, Memphis and Seattle airports. Specific times and locations are as follows:

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport
Ticket/Departure Level of the Main Terminal
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET, Tuesday, Feb. 28

Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport
Ticketing level at the Lindbergh Terminal
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT, Tuesday, Feb. 28

Memphis International Airport
B Terminal Upper/Outer Drive
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT, Tuesday, Feb. 28

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
Airport Terminal and Flag Pavilion Entrance
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. PT, Tuesday, Feb. 28

The bankruptcy judge, with the consent of both parties, extended the deadline for his ruling on management's 1113(c) request to abrogate the Northwest pilots' contract until March 1, 2006, and ALPA continues to negotiate in good faith with management in New York.

"Northwest management continues to overreach and is putting NWA's future in jeopardy," NWA MEC Chairman, Capt. Mark McClain said. "Northwest pilots will strike if management's onerous and unreasonable proposals are imposed on the pilot group."

Northwest pilots began voting on Feb. 13 to authorize a strike, and ballots will be counted today. If the majority of NWA pilots authorize a strike, the union leadership will have the authority to call a strike if the company implements new working conditions on the pilot group.

Founded in 1931, ALPA represents 62,000 pilots at 39 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. ALPA represents approximately 5,000 active NWA pilots and 700 furloughed NWA pilots. Visit the ALPA website at http://www.alpa.org and the NWA ALPA website at http://www.nwaalpa.org.
