Delta Pilots Respond to Management’s Proposal to Delay 1113

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Union representatives of the Delta pilots, a unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, have authorized their negotiators to seek an interim agreement with Delta management that satisfies the parties’ concerns and defers the filing of a Section 1113 motion in bankruptcy court.

Delta management proposed an interim agreement in exchange for delaying the filing of a Section 1113 motion. The interim agreement proposed by management suggests pay cuts and extension of a temporary program allowing some pilots to fly past their retirement. Negotiations will commence on the proposal with input from the elected representatives of the pilots’ union. The goal of the union remains, in Chairman Lee Moak’s words, “to sustain viable careers for Delta pilots with a financially healthy company.” The union maintains that filing of an 1113 would be a failure by management and have long-term negative consequences for all parties to the Delta bankruptcy.

The union’s elected representatives, union professionals, financial and legal counsel continue to analyze management’s business plan and the role pilots will play within that plan. Chairman Moak has also confirmed to the Delta pilots that all legal means will be considered to protect Delta’s pilots and their airline.
