ALPA Holds National Media Briefing to Unveil Top Safety and Security Issues

On Monday, February 2, the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) unveiled its top aviation safety and security priorities for 2009 in a national media briefing.

Held at the JW Marriott Washington, D.C., which is adjacent to the National Press Club, the briefing was also accessible to journalists coast-to-coast via teleconference. The event drew dozens of journalists attending in person and via teleconference.

Capt. John Prater (click here for full remarks), ALPA President, opened the program to discuss the skill, dedication, and professionalism of airline pilots as well as the extremely serious issue of pilot fatigue.

Capt. Rory Kay (click here for full remarks), ALPA Executive Air Safety Chairman, discussed the Association’s top aviation safety issues. The Association’s most pressing aviation security issues were highlighted by Capt. Bob Hesselbein (click here for full remarks), ALPA National Security Committee Chairman.
