US Airways Unit of the Air Line Pilots Association Reelects MEC Officers

CHARLOTTE – The leadership of the US Airways unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) today reelected its officers to two-year terms beginning March 23, 2008. Following a vote by the pilot union’s governing body, the Master Executive Council (MEC), Captain Jack Stephan was reelected as chairman, Captain Kim Allen Snider as vice chairman and Captain Mike D’Angelo as secretary-treasurer.

“The US Airways pilot group has been living under the same bankruptcy-derived contract for years, although US Airways is now a viable stand-alone carrier that has produced hundreds of millions of dollars for its shareholders,” said Captain Jack Stephan. “The pilots of this airline deserve pay parity in line with what the America West pilots are compensated. Delivering returns to this pilot group while protecting them from the effects of a flawed seniority integration award remains the MEC officers’ priority during this next term of office.”

Captain Jack Stephan has been a pilot with US Airways for 24 years and during that time has flown the BAC-111, DC-9, B-737, and A330. His ALPA service dates back 20 years and includes numerous terms as a local council representative, as well as chairman of the US Airways Strike Preparedness and Communications committees. Captain Stephan has also served on various ALPA and Company task forces.

A 27-year veteran of US Airways, Captain Kim Allen Snider has held a wide variety of union positions, including prior terms as MEC vice chairman, ALPA’s local US Airways Council 94 first officer representative, and a member of the US Airways Merger and Negotiating Committees. He currently flies the A320.

Captain Mike D’Angelo previously served the MEC as its secretary-treasurer. He has also held the position of chairman of ALPA’s local US Airways Council 32 in Boston. Captain D’Angelo was hired by US Airways in 1985 and holds a captain position on the A320.

Founded in 1931, ALPA represents 61,000 pilots at 43 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org for more information.
