Pilots Union at Northwest Airlines Elects Officers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Representatives of the Northwest Airlines pilots union today reelected Capt. Dave Stevens to serve as chairman of the NWA unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) during the union's regular quarterly meeting in Memphis, Tenn. The union's governing body, the Master Executive Council (MEC), also elected Capt. Monty Montgomery to serve as vice chairman. The two-year terms begin Jan. 8, 2008.

“The bankruptcy contract continues to have devastating effects on the pay and quality of life of our pilots and their families. I appreciate the continued support of the MEC as we work together to build unity in the pilot group and to repair our contract,” Capt. Stevens said.

Stevens, a Minneapolis-based 757 captain was hired by Northwest in 1985. He served as the Seattle Local Council 54 vice chairman from 2000-2002 and worked on a variety of ALPA committees including Hotel, Family Awareness and Pilot to Pilot. He was first elected as chairman of the NWA pilot group on June 17, 2006.

Montgomery, a Detroit-based Airbus 320 captain, was hired at Northwest in 1986. He has served as the NWA MEC communications committee chairman since June 2007.

“I look forward to working as part of a unified team to serve all Northwest pilots,” Capt. Montgomery said. “Our first and primary goal must be to improve our contract and ensure that Northwest pilots receive compensation commensurate with our professional job performance and responsibilities.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing 60,000 cockpit crewmembers at 41 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. ALPA represents approximately 5,300 active and furloughed NWA pilots. Please visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org for more information.
