Northwest Pilots and Management Reach Tentative Agreement

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. – The negotiating committee for the Northwest Airlines unit of the Air Line Pilots Association today announced it has reached a tentative agreement with Northwest Airlines management on a new pilot contract. The "bridge/investment agreement" negotiations leading to this tentative agreement began in April 2004.

The two-year tentative agreement generates $300 million in annual cost saving and revenue enhancements from NWA pilots, management and salaried employees. NWA pilots would contribute $265 million annually through wage, benefit and other contract changes.

The union’s negotiating committee will present the tentative agreement details to the pilots’ elected representatives, the Master Executive Council (MEC), during their quarterly meeting this week in Hollywood, Fla.

The pilots’ elected representatives will review the tentative agreement and decide whether or not to approve and recommend it to the NWA pilot group. If approved, it will then be submitted to NWA pilots for membership ratification.

No additional details of the tentative agreement will be released pending review and action by the MEC representatives. If approved by the MEC, details will be provided to the membership via pilot roadshows, mailings, and web-based presentations.

ALPA is the world’s oldest and largest pilot union, representing 64,000 airline pilots at 43 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. You can visit ALPA’s website at www.alpa.org.
