Statement by the Air Line Pilots Association, United Chapter, Regarding United’s Request to Extend the Period of Exclusivity by Four Months 

On Friday, August 13, the United Chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association filed an objection to United's request to extend by four months the period of exclusivity. The Company seeks the extension to unilaterally develop, without input from pilots or other stakeholders, exit financing and a reorganization plan.

ALPA’s objection states, in part: “The unmistakable message contained in the Company’s motion is that the price for emergence from bankruptcy will be paid – once again – by pilots and other labor groups.”  The Company’s motion would silence the voices of pilots and other employees who are the major stakeholders in United’s reorganization. It is unacceptable for the Company to have exclusive control over a program designed to confront pilots with end-of-the-line pressure tactics aimed at our pension plan, along with other drastic cost cutting.
