Gemini Air Cargo ALPA Crewmembers Ratify First Contract

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Today, professional pilots and flight engineers of Gemini Air Cargo, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), ratified a 60-month contract that includes improvements in compensation, scheduling, and job security. Of the 157 crewmembers eligible to vote, 83 percent participated with 69 percent casting ballots in favor of the agreement.

"The results of this ratification vote show the strong commitment of the Gemini Air Cargo crewmembers to help this company grow and prosper. This contract gives them the time and stability necessary to achieve this goal. After more than 16 months of mediated negotiations, Gemini Air Cargo crewmembers have a contract that recognizes our professionalism and investments in this airline," said Capt. Tom Crook, chairman of the Gemini Air Cargo crewmembers unit of ALPA. "I want to thank all of the Gemini crewmembers for their resolve and support," he added.

Gemini Air Cargo crewmembers have been negotiating since January 2003 for their first collective-bargaining agreement with management. The National Mediation Board (NMB) assigned a federal mediator to facilitate the contract negotiations in March 2003.

Gemini Air Cargo is a worldwide all-cargo carrier that operates a fleet of MD-11 and DC-10 freighter aircraft.

ALPA, the world’s oldest and largest pilots union, represents 64,000 airline pilots at 42 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. Its website is www.alpa.org.
