US Airways Pilots’ Union Responds to Announcement of US Airways CEO Change

PITTSBURGH—The leader of the US Airways pilots’ unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), today commented on the resignation of President and Chief Executive Officer David N. Siegel, and the appointment of Bruce R. Lakefield, chairman of the US Airways Board of Directors’ Finance and Strategy, and Human Resources committees, as the new chief executive officer.

"We are pleased that the Board of Directors shares our commitment to transforming US Airways and restoring our airline to profitability. This leadership change is an important first step not only in rebuilding our airline, but also in rebuilding our company’s corporate culture," said Capt. Bill Pollock, chairman of the US Airways pilots’ Master Executive Council.

"Bruce Lakefield brings a wealth of integrity, respect for our employees, and a track record of team building, perhaps the most important tool that he will need as we collectively address the challenges before us. We look forward to establishing a cooperative working relationship with Mr. Lakefield and participating with him in the creation of a revised business plan. We remain hopeful that Mr. Lakefield shares our vision for the future and that he respects our serious concerns for quality employee relations," said Pollock.

ALPA is the world’s oldest and largest pilot union, representing 64,000 airline pilots at 42 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. ALPA’s website is www.alpa.org.
