ALPA Reaches Agreement with CanJet Management

The pilots at CanJet Airlines, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), have reached a consensual agreement with their company’s management over the cessation of scheduled operations.

ALPA is satisfied with the willingness of management to address key concerns that pilots had presented. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the agreement.

The meeting came six days after CanJet abruptly announced that it would cease scheduled operations on Sept. 10, 2006 and that it would eliminate most of its pilot positions. The surprise move resulted in strong media interest and public attention over the fates of CanJet workers.

ALPA was certified to represent CanJet pilots in June, but the company and ALPA had not yet negotiated a collective bargaining agreement. ALPA is working vigorously with several airlines to help the CanJet pilots find new positions. At least one ALPA-represented carrier has agreed to offer all interested CanJet pilots a guaranteed interview.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing 61,000 pilots at 40 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
