Jumpseat Committee Urges TSA to Address CASS Problems

May 1, 2009 - On April 27, ALPA’s Jumpseat Committee chairman, First Officer Rich Odbert (FDX), met with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel to discuss the Cockpit Access Security System (CASS). ALPA requested the meeting with the agency’s Commercial Airlines and Airports Division to review certain aspects of the highly successful program including TSA’s oversight of air carrier compliance with program requirements. ALPA also renewed its request for approval of CASS deployment on an international basis.

As a result of specific data provided by ALPA, TSA personnel agreed to review its monitoring of compliance with program standards. The success of this event demonstrated yet again ALPA’s ability to engage in productive dialogue with TSA regarding security issues that impact the entire membership.
