Midwest Pilots Protest Outsourcing of Jobs with Rally at the Midwest Airlines Center

Milwaukee, Wisc.— Midwest Airlines pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association Int'l (ALPA), will hold a rally tomorrow, Wednesday, October 15, at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee.

Why:
To protest the outsourcing of Midwest pilots’ jobs in blatant violation of the pilots’ collective bargaining agreement.

When & Where:
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CDT at the Midwest Airlines Center, Milwaukee, WI

Background:
Last month, Midwest Airlines announced a deal with Republic Airways Holdings which will result in the outsourcing of well over 100 Midwest pilots’ jobs. Under the plan, which went into effect on October 1, 2008, the company is replacing all but nine B-717s with EMB 170s and replace Midwest pilots with Republic Airways pilots. This action by Midwest Airlines’ management will result in more pilot layoffs in addition to the ones that came when the company parked all of its MD-80 aircraft.

ALPA is the bargaining representative for the 400 pilots of Midwest Airlines. Founded in 1931, ALPA represents 53,000 pilots at 37 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at http://www.alpa.org.
