Auburn, Calif. pilot recognized for increasing lines of communication

WASHINGTON—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) will recognize United Airlines First Officer (F/O) Michael Brown with the Outstanding Airport Liaison Representative (ALR) Award at the 54th Annual Air Safety and Security Forum, held in Washington, D.C.

“First Officer Brown has helped reestablish a vital communications link for ALPA with the officials at the Sacramento International Airport,” said Capt. Bob Perkins, ALPA’s airport ground environment (AGE) group chairman. “He deserves this award for his leadership role in improving the coordination of information on airport projects within ALPA’s AGE safety structure.”

F/O Brown serves as the ALPA ALR for the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) in Sacramento, Calif. He continues to be a voice for ALPA pilots’ safety concerns with officials at SMF in areas such as airport signage and air traffic control communications.

“First Officer Brown carries on a long-standing tradition at United Airlines: working to improve airline safety,” said UAL Master Executive Council Chairman Capt. Steve Wallach. “His work serves as an inspiration to all aviators, and his dedication is testament that the future of our profession when it comes to safety will remain in good hands.”

F/O Brown hails from Auburn, Calif. and has been a United pilot for 12 years. He served as the Sacramento ALR from February 2005 to June 2007, and has been an active union member since 1989.

ALPA’s AGE Group selects Outstanding Airport Liaison Representatives from nominations made by ALPA’s Regional Safety Chairmen, Coordinators, and other ALRs, who represent pilots’ interests at more than 200 commercial airports in the U.S. and Canada. ALPA honors ALRs who initiate appropriate actions that result in improved airport policy and practices, including the correction of airport design and technology deficiencies.

Founded in 1931, ALPA represents 55,000 pilots at 40 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. Visit www.alpa.org for more information.
