Delta Pilots Charitable Fund Donates to Children’s Charities Nationwide

ATLANTA, GA --- This holiday season, the Delta Pilots Charitable Fund is donating over $130,000 to non-profit organizations in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Salt Lake City. Since the Fund’s creation in 2000, the Fund has contributed over $500,000 to children-related projects across the U.S.

In December, the Charitable Fund’s Board of Directors, comprised of Delta pilot volunteers, granted funds to the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Georgia Chapter to fund a study at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Family Support Center in Salt Lake City to build a children’s therapy room.

“The Delta Pilots Charitable Fund gives pilots the opportunity to make a difference in our communities,” said Fund Chairman Joe Houseman, an Atlanta-based First Officer.  “Our most recent donations continue the work we started five years ago to help improve the lives of children in cities where Delta pilots live or work.”

Delta pilots contribute to the fund on a voluntary basis.  The Charitable Fund’s Board meets quarterly to review grant requests and authorize expenditures.  “Since the Fund is staffed entirely by volunteers, we have very little overhead.  That allows us to give virtually 100 percent of our donations directly to charities in need,” said Houseman.
